Several of the Netherlands' largest museums have announced their readiness to rectify the "historical injustice" and return the exhibits that once belonged to the colonies to their historic homeland. The country's cultural council brought this issue up.

The project, which will last for four years, will be funded by a Dutch scientific organization and will provide a grant of 3.5 million euros. Participating organizations will add another 1 million. A special group of scientists has been set up to inventory the collections, posting the results of their work in public databases.
