As a result of the efforts of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia, despite the pandemic, a group of foreign experts from UNESCO will arrive in Georgia and will start working on June 23 to diagnose damage to the wall painting and roof defects. Report.ge was informed by the Ministry of Culture.

The experts and architects-restorers will study the situation created due to the shortcomings during the roofing works carried out according to the project in Gelati main temple in 2008 for a week and will issue relevant recommendations. Experts will also examine the damaged parts of the wall painting, after which an action plan will be drawn up to repair the damage.

"The experts have no plans to communicate with the media until the end of the mission. They believe that in case of interest from the media, it is possible to hold a summary briefing only at the end of the mission when returning to Tbilisi. On June 12, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia Tea Tsulukiani personally got acquainted with the preparatory works for the visit of UNESCO experts to Georgia at the Gelati Monastery. At the initiative of the Ministry, scaffolding was erected in the main temple of Gelati, which will allow foreign specialists to study the situation on the ground," the statement reads.
