The International Theater Festival opened in Batumi. Ilia Chavchavadze Drama Theater will host Georgian and European performances during the nine coming days.
The play Demons, staged by the Pole theater director Jacek Glomb, will open the foreign section of the Festival tomorrow. The performances of German, Spanish and Italian theater troupes will follow correspondingly
The idea of setting the big-scale International Theater Festival in Batumi belongs to the Art Director of Ilia Chavchavadze Drama Theater, Andro Enukidze, and his foreign friends. The Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport of Adjara supported the idea.The first Festival - Batumi International - is organized under the patronage of the Ministry. The preparatory work has been underway for several years. The plan will turn into a serious international platform starting from December 2019.
The goal of the Festival:
Presenting Batumi as a city of rich theater art tradition in the World Theaters’ map. Raising awareness of Adjara region in Europe and the World.
Presenting the World-leading theater companies, theater art novelties, and trends to the Georgian audience.
Sharing the experiences and attracting international partners for co-production projects.
The popularization of the modern theater tendencies aiming at the improvement of the qualification of a local creative society.
The closing date of the Festival is December 20.
