It is not easy for parents to decide which school to register their children in.Parents often address private schools for better quality education.
In the regions of the country and particularly in the villages the choice of schools is limited.There are cases when children from several villages go to one school.
The situation is different in big cities where parents have choice of public schools and to private schools, if affordable.
Roughly speaking the private schools in Georgia are ranked according to the categories.Special category includes the expensive schools (5,000$ - 20,000$ per annum), second category is represented by schools with medium cost (3,000 GEL – 5,000 GEL), the third category is more affordable in which the education cost start from 100 GEL/month and mounts to 2000 GEL/annum.There are lots of factors due to which parents make decision in favor of private schools, among which the quality of education and the comfortable environment is named.
report.ge decided to find out what is needed to start a private school business.
“Private school has to get authorization.Which means that the correspondence of private school educational plan with the environment is examined.After the examination the school gains the Authorized Status which in turn gives right to the school students to get the School Certificate.” – said Davit Kobakhidze, the representative of National Center for Education Quality Enhancement.
There are 2085 public schools in Georgia which are financed on voucher basis based on the number of school students.Private schools also are financed from the country budget through vouchers for students.It is unjust as the private schools get double financing from the state budget and the families of the students.It is not difficult to conclude the competitive advantages that the private sector schools have compared to the public schools.
It is desirable that the private school system is developed and the public schools will gradually be substituted by private schools as it is much easier to demand the quality from private schools’ management than that of public schools, in which directors, being completely depending on the state budget, have little authorization and opportunity for making decisions” – stated Paata Sheshelidze, President of New Economic School in response to Report.ge
The demand in private schools is growing due to low quality education in public schools.
According to the information from the Ministry of Education there are around 300 private schools in the country.The parents which cannot afford private schools let their children to public schools with the hope that the existing educational system manages to provide them with the quality education.
