According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, Azerbaijan has bought 44 tonnes of Georgian hazelnut.
The state agency says that from 1 August 2020 to 9 February 2021, Georgia exported 15.6 thousand tonnes of hazelnut and received revenue of USD 81.2 mln. Georgian hazelnut exports have increased this year by 5.2 thousand tonnes (50%).
Georgian hazelnut is mainly exported to the EU countries' markets such as Germany (4,253 tonnes), Italy (3,823 tonnes), The Czech Republic (738 tonnes), Spain (445 tonnes), Lithuania (442 tonnes), France (381 tonnes), Poland (376 tonnes), Bulgaria (345 tonnes), Latvia (128 tonnes), Greece (97 tonnes), Estonia (88 tonnes), Slovakia (86 tonnes), Luxemburg (84 tonnes), Belgia (44 tonnes) and Austria (22 tonnes).
Georgian hazelnut is also exported in the countries as follows: Armenia (885 tonnes), Russia (756 tonnes), Turkey (530 tonnes), Belarus (466 tonnes), Ukraine (300 tonnes), Brazil (186 tonnes), Algeria (185 tonnes), Saudi Arabia (180 tonnes), Canada (146 tonnes), Switzerland (111 tonnes), Mexico (67 tonnes), Uzbekistan (58 tonnes), Syria (50 tonnes), United Arab Emirates (44 tonnes), Azerbaijan(44 tonnes), Jordan (38 tonnes), the UK (35 tonnes), Israel (32 tonnes), Iraq (24 tonnes), USA (19 tonnes) and others.
Last year, Azerbaijani hazelnut exports went down in Georgia by 300,04 tonnes, with Georgia importing 553 tonnes of nuts from Azerbaijan worth $ 343,12.
In 2023-24, Georgia plans to double its hazelnut harvest.
It is noteworthy that Georgia regained the third position on the hazelnut market and now shares it with Azerbaijan, with nut sales having also increased here in 2020.
US Ambassador Kely Degnan also showed interest in Georgian nut potential.
