The total amount of waste was at 3486.5 thousand tons in Azerbaijan in 2020, with the country using its 25% to produce power.
According to Azerbaijan's State Statistical Committee, Azerbaijan produced 200.6 mln kWh electricity using household waste.
The country produced 3486.5 thousand tons of waste in 2020, which exceeds the amounts produced in 2019 by 6.4%. Out of the total amounts of household waste produced in Azerbaijan last year, 67.4% was solid household waste and 32.6% enterprise waste. A total of 74.5% (2350.0 tons) of solid household waste was disposed of in landfills, 25% was applied to produce power, and the rest 0.5% used inside the country.
In 2020, after employing waste, the country produced 200.6 mln kWh electricity, which exceeds the amounts produced in 2019 by 2.4%.
Azerbaijan's State Statistical Committee says that harmful waste in 2020 stood at 317.2 thousand tons, which is 0.1% less than the amount of 2019. A total of 53.8% of harmful waste is produced by mountainous settlements and industrial enterprises, the majority of which are located in Baku. The country neutralized a total of 61.4 tons of harmful waste last year.
