Azerbaijani gas is already available to Greek consumers via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP). The Azerbaijani news agency report.az writes based on the Greek press. Greek consumers received Azerbaijani gas through the DEPA gas distribution network.

Following an agreement with DEPA under the TAP project, Greece joined the European Union's strategic project in the Southern Gas Corridor, diversifying natural gas supplies to Europe.

Gas distribution company DEPA CEO Konstantinos Xifaras said Greece had increased its natural gas purchases at a competitive price, ultimately benefiting consumers, industry, households, and businesses.

4.5 years after the start of construction work in the Greek city of Thessaloniki, the commercial operations of the 878-kilometer TAP gas transmission system began.

TAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor, a connecting project that will transport 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Azerbaijan to European markets. The potential of the pipeline allows its throughput to double, to 20 billion cubic meters per year.

The initiator of the creation of the Southern Gas Corridor is the Azerbaijani side. "We have drawn up an energy map of Eurasia," said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. According to him, Azerbaijan has taken on the main financial burden of this project. Three interconnected gas pipelines with a length of 3,500 kilometers have been built, due to which European consumers are already receiving Azerbaijani gas. According to Aliyev, this is beneficial for both Europe and Azerbaijan.
