A total of 3.091 wagons of cargo, including 108,646 tonnes passed on a new railroad of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars in 2019, the Economic Ministry of Georgia reports.

As the Ministry reports, the work will soon be over at the Georgian section of the railroad, as it should comply with the safety norms and standards.

As the Ministry of Economy reports, all required work has been completed at the Akhalkalaki railway station, including the interior and exterior work.

The highway cable network has been completed in Akhalkalaki, equalling 4,95 km.

The construction of four viaducts has been completed in the Kartsakhi railway station, and a 50 m reinforcement wall was built.

As reported by the Economic Ministry, the essential work of the gallery located around the tunnel portal (240 m) has been over, including the mountainous channel.

The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is being constructed to create an energy hub, provided with the resources from Azerbaijan. The shipping from Turkey to the CIS will be carried out on the line. The specialists expected the annual freight turnover would be 6,5 million tonnes, while the long-term rate would be 17 million tonnes.

The first train passed the Georgian section of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway on January 29, 2015, while the railroad officially opened on October 30, 2017.
