As Georgian MP, representative of the town of Poti Irakli Kakhubia, said in his Facebook post, he welcomes the Poti Port having received permission to take the first steps to the expansion.
Kakhubia says the Poti Port expansion will have a substantial economic effect on Poti and the entire country as well.
Kakhubia states that the foreign direct investment up to 300 million USD means hundreds of new jobs and improved service.
He adds that the Poti Port expansion does not mean any obstacle for the Anaklia Deep Port construction.
''Anaklia remains a strategic project of high importance to our government,'' he says.
''The Anaklia Port construction and Poti Port expansion will provide solid guarantees for the economic development,'' he added.
The Economic Ministry issued a permit for the Poti Port expansion and making it more in-depth.
Economic Minister Natia Turnava says the government has great plans in the Black Sea coastal region, while the Anaklia Deep Port construction remains the main priority.
