"The new railway route, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, has been operating since 2018. Since 2018, about 400,000 tons of cargo have been transported via the railroad. The route will strengthen Georgia's role, and its function in this strategic corridor as the shortest way from Europe to Asia," Minister of Economic and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava stated.
In her words, the capacity to send export cargo via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway from Georgia to China via the shortest route can reduce freight cost and increase Georgia's competitiveness in the hub.
"For the first time, China received imported cargo via the route. The shipment includes household appliances made in Turkey, and containers, sent to China. It is crucial to us, as China has recently become our number one, export partner.
