Economic Minister claims Georgia to be first to open safe tourism hubs

''Georgia will be one of the first countries that will open safe hubs with other ones and resume tourists' flow. But we have to work hard,'' Georgian Economic Minister Natia Turnava said during the presentation of business stimulation programs today.

The Economic Ministry of Georgia is developing a specific anti-crisis plan to support tourism.

Minister Turnava says the novel coronavirus pandemic hit tourism, and the industry requires an individual approach.

In her words, tourism was the sector, Georgia's economy significantly benefited from, but the novel coronavirus caused new requirements and challenges.

''We stay in touch with the tourism industry. It does not include only hotels, but guides that are in hardship. It is a large segment of tour operators and transport companies. Thus, they need a different plan, and we have a chance to make Georgia a safe destination by the end of 2020,'' Turnava said, adding the Georgian government must do everything to ensure tourism to be ready for the new, so-called post-pandemic period.

Turnava says the government will present the tourism facilitation plan after its approval.
