Achieving social gas tariff optimization with Azerbaijan will benefit both the population and the state. Energy expert Gia Arabidze told report.ge about it. In addition to the fact that the gas tax will not be more expensive for the business, it guarantees the population that there will be no problem in the gas supply. And the state, as Arabidze explains, can boldly load thermal power plants so that there is no problem with electricity supply and imports are reduced as much as possible.
"An additional 200 million cubic meters of gas means that the state's revenue will increase, and it will not have to reduce its purchase price in order to maintain tariffs. If the price of commercial gas is $ 255 per 1,000 cubic meters, social gas can be purchased by the state for up to $ 165. It makes it possible to supply thermal power plants at a price that the cost of electricity generated by them is acceptable to us. Using a social gas resource, the Gas Transportation Company built the thermal power plants: Gardabani 1 and Gardabani 2. It means ensuring the population and the stability of supply and tariffs for the state," Gia Arabidze stated.
As the energy expert explains, the 200 million cubic meters of gas is the volume that Georgia received as a payment for gas transmission, which is a solid indicator, considering that the thermal power plants are supplied a total of 600 million cubic meters of gas per year.
According to the energy expert, the agreement with Azerbaijan finally saved imports, improved services, and did not make it necessary to increase gas taxes for businesses, thus further tightened the established tariff.
As Gia Arabidze explains, social gas is the volume of gas purchased at a preferential price, which the state buys as a result of a preferential contract and also delivers at a relatively low price to both thermal power plants and the population.
An agreement on tariff optimization of social gas has been reached with SOCAR. Georgia will receive social gas at a reduced tariff of 200 million cubic meters from Azerbaijan.
