Energy Regulatory Commission presents annual report

Head of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, David Narmania, presented the annual report on the commission's operations.

He highlighted the activities carried out by commission during the novel coronavirus pandemic, namely the mode of remote reading of meter indicators, an extension of the hours of work of call centers, simplified remote service programs, and deposit benefits.

In his words, 2020 is the year of reforming the Georgian energy sector.

Following the Law of Georgia "On Energy and Water Supply," in 2020, the commission will adopt several normative acts.

"While forming a new energy market, it is especially important to create a regulatory framework following European regulations. The commission is actively working on the implementation of various new regulations. On the one hand, the rights of consumers must be protected, and on the other hand, utility companies have the opportunity to provide high-quality services to subscribers. In 2019, due to violation of consumer rights by companies, compensation was awarded to citizens. Their total amount amounted to 818,235 GEL. Besides, the unreasonably accrued amounts were written off,'' Narmania stated.
