As Sports Director of the European Olympic Committee, Peter Brull says in his report, Georgian winter resort Bakuriani offers brilliant conditions for conducting skiing, freestyle, and snowboarding competitions.
According to him, Bakuriani, located at high altitude, ensures excellent conditions for all season long, and the athletes' village and EOC high-rank visitors' hotel are also ready, meeting high standards.
The EOC Evaluation Commission visited Georgian cities of Borjomi and Bakuriani on February 5 – 6.
The Commission, including EOC Sports Director Peter Brüll and its members Azer Aliyev and Stratos Karetos held meetings with Georgian officials, including Economic Minister Natia Turnava.
''The investments in winter sports in Georgia are already evident, as the country won its first winter Youth Olympic Games medal this year in Lausanne, as well as a medal at the International Skating Union European Figure Skating Championship 2020. Besides, Bakuriani was awarded the organisation of the International Ski Federation Snowboard and Freestyle Skiing World Championship 2023,'' the official website of the EOC reads.
As reported by the EOC, ''the Georgian sport officials and government representatives stated that one of the most important reason for Georgia to bid for the EYOF is the legacy it would leave for winter sports in the country.''
''There are indeed projects of reconstruction and restoration of venues that are planned to be completed before EYOF,'' the European Olympic Committee states, adding that the construction of new highways will be completed in 2020 and 2021, connecting Borjomi and Bakuriani with the airports in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.
Following the decision of the European Olympic Committee, Georgia will host the Youth Olympic European Festival in winter sports in 2025.
