The first pipe of the North Stream 2 pipeline has been filled with technical gas and is ready to transport fuel.

"By October 18, the process of filling the first pipe of the North Stream 2 pipeline with gas has been completed. According to the plan and design requirements, the pipeline is filled with the so-called technical gas in the amount of about 177 million cubic meters, which provides a pressure level of 103 bar in the pipeline," the statement reads.

The statement said that this pressure is enough to start gas transportation in the future. The commissioning of the second pipe of the gas pipeline is underway.

In order to start gas supply from the Russian Federation, the project needs certification.

The German Federal Network Agency received the application on September 13 and has four months to review it. If approved, the draft decision will then be sent to the European Commission for consideration.

The 1,200-kilometer pipeline will supply Russian natural gas to Germany via the Baltic Sea and bypass Ukraine.

Through North Stream 2, 55 billion cubic meters of gas will be supplied annually.
