Frozen meat business experience crisis

The frozen meat sales have drastically decreased in Georgia.

As importers report, they suspended importing the product as they cannot sell the product.

They say the closure of hotels, cafes and restaurants caused a drastic drop in sales, as they included the main segment of the frozen meat consumers.

The frozen pork faced most problems. Companies say one tonne of the frozen pork cost about 2,500 USD, while 1 kg costs 10 GEL, but the sharp decrease in sales creates issues for the business.

Importers are waiting for the pandemic to be over.

The Georgian population consumes 55,000 tonnes of meat per annum. More than half of the product is imported.
