Fuel imports to Georgia have increased this year. According to the Union of Oil Product Importers, in the first 11 months of this year, 194.0 thousand tons of fuel were imported to Georgia from Azerbaijan, 19.3% of total fuel imports.
The volume of fuel imported from Azerbaijan (gasoline diesel) has increased annually. In the first 11 months of last year, 145.7 thousand tons of fuel were imported to Georgia from Azerbaijan, 14.7% of total fuel imports.
The increase in fuel imports in the first 11 months of this year was mainly due to increased diesel fuel imports. Asked about the reasons for the increase in diesel fuel from Azerbaijan, the Union of Oil Product Importers explained that the import of Azerbaijani fuel, especially diesel, has increased due to the state program to stimulate agricultural landowners, as well as tightening the control over unregistered and smuggled diesel.
