In the first three months of 2021, electricity imports in Georgia saw a 93% growth and now stand at 1.43 bln kWh. Georgia paid a total of $31.68 mln in three-month electricity imports. The country bought from its neighbor Azerbaijan 463 mln kWh electricity in the first quarter of 2021. Electricity import reached its high this year from Russia, totaling 863 mln kWh, out of which 750 mln kWh is intended to be sent to Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia. Electricity imports from Turkey amounted to 111 mln kWh. 

The ESCO data show that in the first three months of 2021, 41% of electricity consumed in Georgia was imported. They link the increased imported amounts to the Enguri hydropower plant rehabilitation work. 

Electricity consumption in Georgia increased by 3.3%, amounting to 3.47 bln kWh.
