Georgia buys $7.017 mln electricity from Azerbaijan

In January of 2021, Georgia purchased Azerbaijani power in the amount of $7.017 mln. 

According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, in January of the current year, the Azerbaijani power import costs went up by 74.4% compared to the same period of the last year. 

According to the Electricity Market Operator of Georgia (ESCO), Georgia imported 151,7779 mln kWh electricity from Azerbaijan in 2021, with annual imported volumes having increased by 1.9%. 

Last year, Georgia bought a total of 1.6 bln kWh electricity, for which the country paid USD 64.5 mln.

In 2020, Georgia purchased electricity from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

Georgia bought the most portion of power from Azerbaijan the previous year: more specifically, 45% (726 mln kWh) of total imports were carried out from Azerbaijan. 

Georgia has to pay the highest rates (5 cents per kWh) for Azerbaijan's electricity, however. The country paid a total of USD 36,397,260 last year.

Georgia imported a total of 313,100,000 kWh electricity from Turkey and paid USD 13,564,140 (3 cents per kWh).

Russia had the same tariffs as Turkey in 2020 (3 cents per kWh). Georgia purchased a total of 570,600,000 kWh electricity from Russia and paid USD 14,553,200 for the purchased amount.
