The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development assesses the spread of information as if the import of electricity from Georgia is carried out through corrupt deals, and because of this, the consumer electricity tariff increases. Natia Turnava claims that this is a lie and slander.

The Minister also excludes the participation of businessman Ucha Mamatsashvili in the process of importing electricity and calls on those who spread the information to refrain from such statements.

According to Natia Turnava, within the framework of the energy reform implemented by the Government of Georgia, the import of electricity is carried out absolutely transparently, in full compliance with market principles.

According to her, unlike the year 2012, today Georgia receives electricity from three countries - Russia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, which means that no importer of electricity will dominate the Georgian electricity market and dictate the market price causing its growth. Turnava claims that this became possible as a result of the energy reform that the country is implementing after joining the European Energy Union.

"Until 2012, Russia was the main importer, and 80 percent of electricity imports came from there. Today, due to our reform and competition in the market, we are supplied with electricity from three different countries, and the current December is a very good example. By carrying out the reform, we have allowed maximum competition. The import of electricity is carried out based on the specifics of the energy system in the importing country. For example, if the import of electricity from Russia is carried out only by the Russian state company Inter RAO, private companies from Turkey and Azerbaijan are allowed to enter the process, and Georgia can not restrict it due to market competition. Energy market reform aims to encourage competition rather than restrict it. In the end, the customer who receives electricity remains to be the winner," said Natia Turnava.
