Georgia plans to implement the first part of the universal internetization project without holding any tenders.

Open Net, managed by the Ministry of Economic, made this decision and asked for a permit from the State Procurement Agency to purchase then mln GEL via direct contract.

As part of the pilot project, the wide-line network will be installed in the Ozurgeti region. The deadline is December 2020.

The Georgian government started a discussion on the internetization project earlier, five years ago, and established a legal entity Open Net on July 21, 2015.

In January 2020, a new strategy of wide-line internet infrastructure was approved, and the government of Georgia will finance its installation in the spots where the private sector is less interested in it.

The government strategy first envisages counting the so-called 'white zones' without the internet.

The Ministry of Economy says that the number of such settles spots reach about 1,300.

By 2025, the households should be provided with 100 MB/s internet, while business should be provided with one GB/s internet.
