Georgia started exporting locally produced face masks.
Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava says that the medical masks made of polypropylene have been on export to Europe and the US.
"As far as you know, masks are made both as part of the state program and by private companies. Georgia exports medical masks to Europe, Ukraine, and the USA. Earlier, we banned the export, because we wanted to saturate the local market," Minister Turnava said.
In his words, Georgian factories produced about five million gauze masks under the government program.
The government subsidizes the price of the masks and does not allow their export.
The subsidized face masks program has ended in Georgia.
The program value was 3,459,077.80 GEL. Under this program, 5.349.195 pieces of reusable masks were sewn.
