As part of international shipping, a vessel loaded with 3,030 tonnes of wheat arrived at Poti's port.

As the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia reports, amid the global crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, Georgia, as the central transit region of Transcaucasia, carries out international shipping to various countries.

The deputy head of the customs department, Elguja Berandze, met the ship in the port and got acquainted with the customs control procedures.

Following the agency, upon arrival at the port, the Revenue Service epidemiologist is presented with documents on the sanitary condition of the ship, and only after successful completion of the control is the appropriate phytosanitary border control of wheat carried out. A sample is taken on the spot and the material is studied in a specialized laboratory.

After the quality control of grain completes, if it meets the requirements by law, wheat will be loaded from the ship, distributed into freight vehicles, weighed, and placed in the importer's warehouse.

Control procedures for ships at Georgian ports have been stiffened to prevent the coronavirus.

In particular, only persons with Georgian citizenship subject to appropriate testing are allowed into the country.
