Georgia saw an 82% decline in international tourism revenue over 11 months of 2020. In this period of time, international tourists spent as little as $527 mln in Georgia. The bulk of this amount, precisely, $427, was spent before the lockdown. Georgia accrued only $100 mln from tourism revenue after shutting its air borders.
In 2020, Georgia witnessed an 81% decrease in tourist arrivals. As the 2020 tourism statistics summary says, the annual number of international visitors has dropped by 7,608,656 (81%) and totaled 1,749,308, which is around the same number of tourists as the country had in 2010.
In 2020, Georgia saw the majority of visitors from the following ten countries:
- Turkey - 335,949 tourists (-71,0% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Azerbaijan - 295,175 tourists (-80,7% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Armenia - 261,295 visitors (-80,9% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Russia - 209,169 tourists (-85,8% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Georgia - non-resident visitors - 140,848 tourists (-71,2% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Ukraine - 42,428 tourists (-79,6% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Israel - 25,791 tourists (-87,4% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Iran - 17,053 tourists (-88,0% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Uzbekistan - 14,470 tourists (-13,8% decrease if compared to 2019);
- Belarus - 14,340 tourists (-78,3% decrease if compared to 2019).
