Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava met with employees of the sewing sector today.

About 20 sewing companies' representatives attended the meeting.

The parties discussed the challenges caused by the rapid dissemination of the novel coronavirus, including the increased demand for face masks.

They said the increased demand led to local production.

In Natia Turnava's words, the Georgian government will facilitate the local production of face masks and other means that protect people from the virus.

As per Turnava, different samples and materials required for the face mask production are currently being tested.

She said the National Control for Disease Control and Lugar Laboratory engaged in the process.

''We will support local manufacturers and ateliers to carry out the product to reduce the deficit and offer Georgia-made face masks, and other anti-virus means including disinfection solutions to the people,'' Turnava stated.

She praised the companies for showing readiness to carry out the idea.

''I would like to thank them,'' Turnava declared.

Company directors said they are ready to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus and stand by the Georgian government and people.
