A peach picking season is beginning in Georgia. The peach and nectarine harvest in Georgia tends to be 35,000 tonnes in the Georgian region of Kakheti.

As Georgian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili stated, Georgia will export about 15,000 tonnes of the harvest.

He added that an organizer office would open in Gurjaani to ensure the smooth harvesting and selling process.

''The office will operate following the Health Ministry recommendations,'' he said, adding twenty refrigeration plants will engage in the process.

Georgia exported 13,256 tonnes of peach and nectarine in 2019.

Nine refrigeration plants were involved in the process.

The 2019 export data are as follows:

Russia - 10,777 tonnes

Armenia - 1,373 tonnes

Azerbaijan – 667 tonnes

Ukraine – 150 tonnes

Kazakhstan – 114 tonnes

Slovenia – 78 tonnes

Iraq – 39 tonnes

Iran – 20 tonnes

Belarus – 18 tonnes

Moldova – 19 tonnes

Qatar – 0.4 tonnes.
