As Georgia plans to host foreign tourists from July 1, the government is developing a protocol to check visitors on the COVID-safety.

Georgian Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze says Georgia will offer several ways to check, as only thermal screening is not enough.

In Tikaradze's words, every country must publicize a laboratory list, and Georgia will recognize a 72-hour suspension test conducted in the labs.

She says the government is discussing the locations that will provide laboratory service to the tourists, even the suspension test, if not taking it in the homeland.

Tikaradze states it will be better Georgia to host tourists from low-risk countries, but the government is still ready to ensure the safety check.

"Georgia is a country that is always ready to host tourists from different countries, and we can do it,'' Minister Tikaradze remarks.

The UN World Tourism Association has developed a new protocol for tourists, which includes stiffened airport procedures.

COVID tests will be required as well. The new protocol includes a requirement of a COVID passport.

Georgia plans to open borders for foreign tourists on July 1, 2020.
