Georgia terminates live sheep exports to Azerbaijan

Georgia has terminated the live sheep exports to Azerbaijan this year.

As reported by the National Statistics Office of Georgia, no live sheep have been exported to Azerbaijan yet, while in 2019, Azerbaijan purchased 2,233.9 tonnes of live sheep from Georgia.

As reported, Azerbaijan paid 4,700.0 thousand USD for the sheep.

The sheep were transported by vehicles.

The novel coronavirus pandemic is named as the reason for the sheep export termination.

Georgian shepherd Valeri Gelashvili says that Azerbaijani investor canceled the order for 100 heads of sheep in December 2019 for 'the future could no longer be foreseen.'

The pandemic has not prevented Georgia from exporting live sheep to Saudi Arabia.

Georgia has exported 578.9 tonnes of live sheep to Saudi Arabia, and Arab investors paid 2,081.3 USD for it.
