Georgia to open tourism in three phases

Georgian Economic Minister Natia Turnava says the tourism industry will resume functioning in three phases.

The first stage includes the industry to get ready, while local tours will resume starting on June 15.

The third stage includes hosting international tourists.

''Once the World Tourism Organization approves new guidelines, we will introduce them,'' Georgian Economic Minister Natia Turnava claims.

''We have been conducting negotiations with airline companies on the destinations to resume flights,'' Turnava said.

She also specifies that Georgia should engage in the process of the EU countries having launched talks on opening borders with each other.

''We are working to ensure safe hubs between the countries,'' she said, adding Georgia's entire marketing policy will aim to strengthen a new image – Georgia, as a safe destination.

In her words, by June 15, Georgia will have the safe tourist zones' conception and pilot zones ready.

''Locals can visit hotels starting June 15,'' Turnava added.

''First of July is the beginning of the third phase, as Georgia will be ready to host international travelers and resume operation of land and air transport,'' Turnava stated.
