Georgian Economic Minister says Georgia should be powerful electricity exporter across region

“We must do everything to improve our energy independence, to build new facilities and to make Georgia an independent, powerful exporter of electricity across the region,’’ Georgian Minister of Economy Natia Turnava said at the Parliament.

In her words, new facilities should be constructed, and Georgia should be independent in this respect.

She says the energy field is disputable, especially the construction of large HPPs, but all the power facilities’ capacity is about 4,500 megawatts, and 70% were built during the Soviet era.

“It means that new facilities should be built, and Georgia should be independent in this respect,’’ Turnava said.
