Georgian official says S&P global rating maintenance is of extreme importance

Georgia's Deputy Minister of Finance, Nikoloz Gagua, said that getting an investment rating from the S&P Global international rating agency is critical.

He says in 2021, Georgia's economy will grow by 4%, hitting the highest level in the region.

"Despite the deteriorating outlook, mainly related to the agency's assessment of the global tourism perspective, it is imperative to maintain this rating. The key objective of the Georgian government still is to obtain an investment rating, planned for 2024," Gagua said.

The S&P Global rating agency left Georgia's sovereign credit rating unchanged; it remains at the 'BB' level.
