Following the decision of June 15, 2020, Georgia joined a campaign launched by International Maritime Organization and declared a sailor as a critical profession.

The world maritime authorities have not missed Georgia's decision.

Hellenic Shipping News, Marine Insight, Cyprus Shipping News, Safaty4sea, MarineLink, and Maritime Business World have responded to it.

"Georgia is one of the first countries in the region to have recognised and designated seafarers as "key workers," Cyprus Shipping News reports.

"Georgia will use the best of its experience gained during the successful management of the spread of the coronavirus to facilitate the seafarers' repatriation and rotation process,'' Maritime Insight reports.

Georgian Economic Minister Natia Turnava said earlier that Georgia followed IMO and WHO guidelines and developed regulations that simplify the sailors' movement across the country.

Georgia also developed the rules on acceptance/seeing off sailors and their accommodation in a quarantine area.

She says Georgia has an excellent geographic location.
