Free shuttles between Kutaisi International Airport and Kopitnari Railway Station will provide passengers with free service.

Georgian Economic Minister Natia Turnava discussed the project initiated by the Economic Ministry.

According to her, the project completion will increase the attractiveness of Kutaisi Airport.

According to the new project approved by the government, Kutaisi International Airport will be connected with the Kopitnari Railway Station. The government will implement the repair work on the station.

The Roads Department of the Infrastructure Ministry of Georgia will launch the work shortly.

''We are also working on the expansion of Kutaisi International Airport. A new terminal is being constructed and will start operation this year. Thus, it was important to implement the project simultaneously. The Roads Department will ensure the connection between the two facilities – airport and railway station – with the road, while the Georgian Railway will ensure the station repair according to high standards. The United Airports of Georgia, handled by the Economic Ministry, will organize free shuttle service between the station and airport,'' Turnava said.

The shuttles will bring the passengers from Kutaisi International Airport to the renewed railway station.

As the Georgian government reported in 2017, the new railway would enable trains to stop in the vicinity of Kutaisi International Airport.

The railroad was to be completed in spring 2018, but PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili postponed the date for a year.

In 2019, Head of the Union of Airports of Georgia Giorgi Chogovadze declared that the railway would open in a year.

On January 28, 2020, the government reported that the Kopitnari railway project would end shortly, but the date of its implementation remained vague.
