President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said that the railroad will link Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic.
"We have great plans. We have already launched reconstruction efforts. Initially, we will try to clean up the explosive-contaminated area and assess the damage sustained. We have already started infrastructure projects," the Azerbaijani leader said.
Ilham Aliyev released this statement after planting Azerbaijan's flag on the soil of the Gulabird village, the Lachin District, on Feb 14.
"Today, the foundation has been laid for the Horadiz-Agbend railway line, which is of immensely significant strategic importance: firstly because both citizens and goods are set to be transported to the liberated regions via this railroad, and secondly, the railway is linked to Nakhichevan. The Nov 10 joint statement includes the particular provision on creating the Nakhichevan Corridor. We have already started carrying out the corresponding efforts. I am confident that the project will be a success. Finally, the railway will link Azerbaijan and its inseparable constituent — Nakhichevan. By doing so, we will attain our strategic, economic, and political objectives," Aliyev declared.
