Lift of domestic tourism restrictions fails to help guides

The Georgian government has lifted restrictions on domestic tourism for a week, and a week is left before opening borders for foreign visitors.

As representatives of tourism industry tell report.ge, no increased activity is observed in the market.

The number of bookings increased by 5% in guesthouses compared to May-June 2020. The small increase is also observed in restaurants and hotels.

As for guides, the demand for them has disappeared, and they do not see any hope for the future.

"Regardless of how active domestic tourism is, this will not affect us in any way, because locals especially do not use the guides' services. Earlier, we were invited to trips, but now it is forbidden to conduct excursions. Our main customers were foreigners. We do not believe that from July 1, foreign tourists will begin to visit frequently. The government does not pay attention to us so far. We have not received any help yet. This year, we have no hope, while a guide received an average of 50,000-60,000 GEL per year," guide Karlo Oniani told Report.ge.
