Georgia saw a considerably increased figure in the oil bitumen imports in May 2020.

As reported by the Union of Oil Importers, the oil bitumen imports equaled 7.7 thousand tonnes in May 2020 in Georgia.

The volume exceeds the April indicator by 4.2 thousand tonnes or 120%, and lags behind the 2019 same period rate by 45,8% or 6,5 thousand tonnes.

A total of 59,7% (4.6 thousand tonnes) was imported from Azerbaijan, 24.7% (1,9 thousand tonnes) – from Iraq, 7.8% (0.6 thousand tonnes) from Armenia, 3.9% (0.3 thousand tonnes) – from Russia, 2.6% (0.2 thousand tonnes) from Turkey, 1.3% (0.1 thousand tonnes) – from Iran.

In January – May 2020, the oil bitumen imports equaled 25,5 thousand tonnes. The rate is 18.6 thousand tonnes less than the indicator or 2019.

The Oil Product Importers Union states the COVID-19 pandemic is the reason for the drop in the bitumen imports.
