OPEC puts off meetings to assess Omicron impact

OPEC has moved two technical meetings to later this week in order to give committees more time to evaluate the impact of the new Omicron coronavirus variant.

The Technical Monitoring Committee meeting, which was first planned for 29 November, will be conducted on 1 December.

Technical Committee experts will draw up a report in which the issue of oil production volumes for the next weeks will be discussed.

The US earlier requested that some Asian countries free strategic oil reserves to put pressure on OPEC to reduce oil prices on the global market. However, OPEC prognosticates that this may result in excessive oil supplies on the global market. Some OPEC delegates noted that in the case of excessive oil supplies, the organization might refuse planned oil production growth in January.
