For the problems in tourism, the population of Kazbegi has to resume agricultural activities.
People returned from Tbilisi and other large cities, head of the information and consulting center for farmers in Kazbegi, Kakha Janukashvili told report.ge.
In his words, in recent years, the population of Kazbegi has practically terminated cattle breeding and switched to tourism services.
He says all this caused problems for agriculture.
"The situation was complicated. We saw a reduction in livestock, as people voluntarily refused to care for cattle and made tourism their priority. And the last because of the pandemic did not materialize. Now there are no vacationers in the region, and no one expects them to appear. Therefore, the population has completely switched to agriculture. At one time, the inhabitants of Kazbegi converted pens into hotels and got rid of cattle. Now everyone has realized this mistake. People began to buy livestock and look after it. This summer, we have already added 250 heads of cattle, mainly cows. The total number of livestock is 4,500. In Soviet times, this number was twice as much," Kakha Janukashvili stated.
He also added that the number of sheep in Kazbegi does not exceed 18 thousand, while in the 1990s, the number reached 300,000.
