A 13-kilometer bypass road is under construction in Georgia's coastal region of Batumi. Currently, building work is underway on 17 bridges and in four tunnels.

The current road crosses tourist and residential areas and complicates the movement of international transit transport.

After the project is over, the Batumi bypass road, with the Kobuleti bypass road, will mitigate traffic in the resort area of Adjara.

All this will contribute to the growth of transit freight traffic. Besides, it will improve the environment.

As part of the project, a two-line asphalt concrete road, 19 bridge crossings, four transport interchanges, five tunnels, and 57 culverts will be laid.

A new bypass road will cross Makhinjauri, Gantiadi, Kapreshumi, Salibauri, Peria, Makhvilauri and Khelvachauri.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) are the project sponsors with a value of 329 630 734 GEL.
