Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Turkey to start gas extraction efforts in Black Sea by 2023

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says that by 2023, the country will have started full-scale extraction of natural gas in the Black Sea.

''We are trying to launch the first phase of the development of the Black Sea gas field by 2023 on time. Our drilling capacity enables us not to be dependent on others. Gas imports from the Black Sea will also reduce the demand for fuel imports,'' Erdogan stated.

In Erdogan's words, all equipment has already been prepared to extract gas from the Black Sea shelf in the test mode. The Turkish leader said that the country has drilled more than five gas fields in the Black Sea for the last year. In addition to this, the government is also building underground infrastructure for gas transportation and storage purposes.

On 21 August 2020, Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Turkey made the big discovery of natural gas reserves in the Black Sea. It plans to provide the internal market with the discovered gas in 2023.
