In the best-case scenario, around 50,000 tourists will have entered the country by the end of the year, according to Minister of Finance Ivane Machavariani. He defined this figure as low.
"We should check the numbers and examine the prospect of receiving Europian tourists and visitors. The current figure is rather low. Despite this being 0.5% of those numbers we expect in normal situations, the question which is raised is why this low number may not be added to tourist flow inside the country... However, we should emphasize that today we are almost a coronavirus-free country, without cases detected at borders in the course of two weeks and without in-country transmission. In general, we should know that resuming flights and hosting visitors negatively impacts economy. This may be a paradox, but this is a fact," Machavariani announced.
