"Energy cooperation is an important part of our partnership. We are pleased to have completed our main project - the Southern Gas Corridor," the statement came from the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with Wendy Morton, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for European Neighbourhood and the Americas.
"You know that BP is our strategic partner. From the very beginning, this company participated as an investor in large projects implemented in Azerbaijan. After the extension of the "Contract of the Century," our cooperation will continue for many decades," Aliyev said, adding that the seventh meeting of the Advisory Council of the Southern Gas Corridor will take place in two days.
According to him, the achieved results and issues of future cooperation will be discussed at the meeting.
"Of course, the United Kingdom's investments in Azerbaijan have helped us a lot in modernizing the country. Nearly $ 30 billion of British investment has been made in Azerbaijan's energy sector. It allowed us to use the proceeds from oil and gas sales to diversify the economy. Our main focus in the coming years will be developing the non-energy sector in Azerbaijan," Aliyev said.
