Specific oil bases fail to meet technical inspection

"There are some oil depots in Georgia that failed to pass the technical inspection," Shavleg Mishveladze, head of the Oil Products and Gas Committee of Georgia, said.

He declares that safety standards before the public are the essential responsibility of the owners of all the stations and depots.

In Mishveladze's words, most of the oil storage depots in Georgia were built at the end of the 20th century and required constant monitoring.

"We face risks when it comes to thousands of tons of fuel tanks. Fire detection and extinguishing systems, tank cooling systems, oil spill control systems, drainage systems, and other safety measures must be observed when high-risk facilities operate. More than four dozen oil depots are working in the country, and some of them have not yet met technical inspection, following the legislation. We believe that the Supervision Agency's new management will pay proper attention to the problem and will resolve the issues of inspection and certification of oil depots," Shavleg Mishveladze remarked.
