An information campaign 'EU Sustainable Energy Week' will be held on June 22 – 26 in Georgia.

The EU office to Georgia is the organizer, and the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development supports it.

Most of the campaign activities will be carried out via social, broadcasting, and online media platforms for the coronavirus-related recommendations.

As reported by the EU Sustainable Energy Week official website, "highlights include a 3-day digital policy conference, the EUSEW Awards, the first European Youth Energy Day as well as 1:1 video meetings, virtual stands, and other networking activities. Throughout June, participants will also have access to online side events and Energy Days, digital events taking place all over Europe."

EU Ambassador to Georgia, Carl Hartzell, says that the legislation on energy efficiency is a step in Georgia.

As EU Ambassador Carl Hartzell said, there are two key messages: reducing energy consumption and introducing 'green' energy.

In his words, both ways have positive effects on environment protection and finances.

"Georgia has unused resources of pure energy,'' he said, adding the resources can make the air cleaner and safer, stop global warming, improve the citizens' health condition and support their employment.

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava said that the development of sustainable energy is essential for the energy independence of Georgia.

''We appreciate the EU and international donors' support in the implementation of energy reforms in Georgia,'' Natia Turnava said, adding the reforms aim to improve energy security and sustainable development via renewable energy sources.
