TANAP is technically ready for hydrogen transportation; Elshad Nasirov, the Vice President of SOCAR for Investment and Marketing, confirmed the information. Nasirov noted that a blend of up to 20 percent hydrogen could flow through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) in the future.

According to him, the Southern Gas Corridor (UGK) changed the Turkish gas market dynamics, and the country increased its supply under the contracts by an additional 6 billion cubic meters of gas. As a result, Azerbaijan became the number one supplier of gas to Turkey.

The natural gas extracted from the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan is supplied to Turkey via the South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) and TANAP. The first gas through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline entered the Turkish market in 2007. Commercial gas supply to Turkey through TANAP started on June 30, 2018.

TAP is transporting natural gas from the Shah Deniz gas field to Europe. The 878 km long pipeline connects the Turkish-Greek border with the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline and runs through Greece, Albania, and the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy.

The Southern Gas Corridor will expand and, it may also serve the Balkan region. After expansion, the total capacity of TAP will be 20 billion, and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) - 31 billion. In total, the capacity of the South Caucasus pipeline will reach 30 billion cubic meters after expansion.

The Southern Gas Corridor consists of three pipelines - the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPX), the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
