"The corridor countries' governments have approved the Unified Transit Authorization Deal of TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia)," IGC TRACECA Secretary General Aset Avsabaev reported.
In his words, the TRACECA ЕТР Initiative will increase the corridor competitiveness by digitalizing processes and procedures for obtaining permits. It will also reduce the time and cost of transportation and optimize control procedures by reducing the number of licenses.
"The deal creates conditions for increasing the attractiveness of the route and attracting additional freight traffic. I believe the implementation of this Agreement and the practical application of a single transit permit in electronic form will increase the volume of transported goods by attracting freight flows from alternative transport routes. Naturally, it will also be a significant step in shaping the digital ecosystem of TRACECA," he said.
Georgia's Transport Corridor President Paata Tsagareishvili said that the unified permit use in a range of the TRACECA countries is problematic.
"It is difficult to use the permit in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, i.e., in the East's countries. They still do not recognize many things; for example, they still weigh a car, while the document reads that the weighing in the first country is sufficient,'' Tsagareishvili told report.ge.
On June 11, 2020, PS IGC TRACECA national secretaries held an online meeting.
TRACECA is a system of international road transport of goods based on the Customs Convention on the international carriage of goods using TIR.
It ensures the international connection between Europe and Asia that supports regional economic development.
