Welding work on the TAP pipeline ends

As part of the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Gas Pipeline (TAP), the final welding work has been over.

As a reminder, the TAP pipeline will transfer natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.

As the TAP consortium reports, it connects an 878-km section between the Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and the host terminal in Italy.

The TAP pipeline, representing a part of the Southern Gas Corridor project, plans to supply Europe with ten billion cubic meters of gas produced due to the Shah Deniz-2 project.

In the vicinity of the Turkish-Greek border, the pipeline will link the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) and cross Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea to reach south Italy.

The Shah Deniz Consortium officially announced the TAP pipeline route on June 28, 2013. The total length of the gas pipeline is 878 km, of which 550 km will pass through the territory of Greece, 215 km - to Albania, 105 km - to the Adriatic Sea, 8 km - to south Italy.

The highest point of the pipeline will be in Albania's mountains (1800 m), the lowest on the seabed (-820 m).

The TAP laying ceremony took place on May 17, 2016, in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The first deliveries of Azerbaijani gas to Europe will take place in 2020.
