Dumping has been a problem for the local industry for a long time, and local producers have been asking for help from the government.

Local companies created the Federation of Georgian Producers several years ago to protect the domestic industry from dumped imports.

The federation unifies about 150 companies.

Founder of the federation Levan Silagava says that an entrepreneur will need a year to leave all rivals behind with a dumping pace, and the company entered the market with the dumping process, will be a monopolist, as it has defeated opponents with dishonest ways and nothing prevents it from raising prices.

Silagava says that in a long-term prospect, the consumers remain defeated and businesses – bankrupted.

''For years, business officials informed us that there were products at a dumping price in this or that field. I can name examples in metallurgy and cement, producers of chicken mean and eggs, cable case producers, flour producers, and others… these issues mitigated sometimes,'' Silagava says, adding that the dumping product was of a low quality than the local one.

As a reminder, the reality, caused by dumping prices, has led to protests for recent years.

Dumping is the sale of products on a foreign market at a much lower price than domestic, sometimes even lower than the product self-cost. In business, dumping usually aims to drive competitors out of the market.

With the first hearing, the Parliament of Georgia has already voted for the bill 'On Anti-Dumping Trade Measures.' Following the project, the Competition Agency will study the issue.
