A 20-year-old girl was sentenced to four years in prison for strangling her newborn baby to death. According to the investigation, the girl gave birth at home and killed the baby right after. The incident occurred in one of the villages of Khelvachauri.
The accused pleaded guilty in the court.
The investigation was launched under Article 112 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. This article refers to "the premeditated killing of a newborn by the mother during childbirth or after." The crime is punishable by house arrest from six months to two years or imprisonment from three to five years.
