Defendant accused of assaulting First Channel cameraman receives jail sentence

The Tbilisi City Court has sent defendant Giorgi Maghradze charged with assaulting Georgian First Channel cameraman Ilia Tvaliashvili to jail. 

The verdict has recently been rendered.

The Prosecutor's Office demanded that the defendant be sent behind bars; the defendant himself disagreed with the Prosecutor's Office's position. 

On 5 July, opponents of Tbilisi pride attacked journalists on Rustaveli Ave. The MIA of Georgia said that following the investigation activities, they determined that violent crimes were committed against 55 citizens, with 53 being representatives of different media outlets.

Ilia Tvaliashvili, the Public Broadcaster cameraman, is among the injured. 

The Prosecutors Office pressed charges against Giorgi Maghradze for subjecting the First Channel cameraman to violence and persecution today.
